Vision for WT-PERC:
For rural and urban citizens in SC to be educated in such a way as to understand the global market and how it is linked to the betterment of their communities and their personal lives.
Vision for WT-PERC:
The mission of the WT-PERC is to improve the economy of South Carolina through trade by increasing product distribution, providing education and training, conducting research and advanced technology, which results in new business ventures for South Carolina.
Goal
To increase wealth and income of all citizens of the state through world trade.
What is the WT-PERC?
The World Trade Park and Research Center is the proposed development of a 3000 acre park located between I-95 and I-26. This 5-10 year $400 million dollar project that is to be completed in four phases for manageability and cost effectiveness.
Components of the WT-PERC:
- Product Distribution Center
- Research and Business Development Center
- Logistics Transportation Center
- Education Training and Information Center
What is Global Markets?
This is a high school course written by the SC World Trade Center that is currently underway in 11th and 12th Grade classrooms across the state. This course is a training platform to prepare students to work in today’s global environment. The course is part of a career pathway that will include:
- globalMARKETS Introduction (Underway)
- globalMARKETS Import/Export (Fall 05)
- globalMARKETS Warehousing and Distribution
- globalMARKETS Ocean Transportation
- globalMARKETS Capstone Course
How will WT-PERC & globalMARKETS come together?
- Dual Credit in SC technical colleges and through SC State University (forthcoming)
- James E. Clyburn Transportation Center in the WT-PERC,
- Summer program for students across the state in the WT-PERC
- Magnet high school that can become a middle college in the WT-PERC
Who is involved?
- South Carolina World Trade Center
- South Carolina State University
- South Carolina Legislature
- South Carolina Department of Commerce: through a seed grant to further develop this ambitious and comprehensive multi-year project
- A collaboration of economic development stakeholders including: SCSPA, chambers of commerce, county government, regional development commissions and alliances, and private sector business and industry.
